The Texas Cave Conservancy is involved in the management of a number of Texas Cave Preserves.
Caves require management for a number of reasons. The first is to prevent the entry into the cave by
those individuals unprepared for a cave visit. Another good reason is to protect the cave and the cave
life. The TCC works to protect these valuable Texas treasures. In the Austin and the San Antonio areas
several cave related species have been placed on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife cave related endangered
species list. The City of Austin Watershed Ordinance requires these valuable sites be protected.
The State of Texas works to protect significant recharge caves. They are "windows to the aquifer" and
are a valuable tool in the protection of our water supply.
